Cesar Augusto Cielo Filho of CRF/RJ claimed gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, April 25.
The 25-year-old Cielo remained dominant over his competitors throughout the single lap freestyle event. With his laudable efforts, he enjoyed an advantage of half body length over his opponents and ensured his top finish on the victory stand.
Cielo, who won the title of same event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, captured gold medal of the 100m event with the timing of 21.38 seconds.
His irresistible effort remained 0.38 seconds faster from his following swimmer, Bruno Fratus of ECP/SABESP, who accomplished silver medal of the freestyle discipline by reporting a time of 21.76 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by his team-member, Frederick Bousquet, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by reporting a time of 21.79 seconds.
Subsequently, fourth finest spot of the race was secured by Nicholas A D Dos Santos of CRF/RJ, who remained almost 0.30 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and posted an effort of 22.07 seconds.
Santos remained in a lead of 0.27 seconds over his following swimmer, Marcelo Chierighini of ECP/SABESP, who proved his eligibility for fifth position of the event by reporting a time of 22.34 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Chierighini‘s teammate, Walter Pereira Lessa, who was 0.22 seconds apart and concluded his race in a time of 22.56 seconds.
His effort was chased by his compatriot, Andre Daudt, who occupied seventh best position of the discipline by reporting a time of 22.72 seconds.
Finally, the eighth position of the discipline was secured by Alan Vitoria of BFR, who failed to upset any of his challengers in the playoff and ended his swim by clocking a time of 22.88 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all events while the position holders were awarded medals after the session. In addition, Cielo was delighted with his nerve-wrecking form and said that he will try to achieve the same at 2012 London
Olympic Games.
