Cesar Cielo earns Men’s 50m freestyle gold: Day two – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy, Brazil
Cesar Augusto Cielo Filho of CRF/RJ earned gold medal of Men’s 50m freestyle discipline on the second day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 31, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Cielo Filho occupied the title of the event, with a stunning performance of 21.97 seconds. His title claiming effort was 1.06 seconds slower than his own world mark of 20.91 seconds, made by Cielo in 2009. Nevertheless, this time the gold medallist was 0.42
seconds slower than the championship mark of 21.55 seconds, made by Nicholas A D Dos Santos of ECP/SP during 2009.
The gold medallist was trailed by championship record holder, Santos, who remained 0.31 seconds slower than him on the finishing wall and posted a second fastest time of 22.28 seconds for silver medal. Santos managed a lead of 0.29 second over his subsequent
competitor, Bruno Fratus of ECP/SABESP, who submitted a wonderful time of 22.57 seconds for bronze medal.
Cielo is one of the most famous swimmers, as he is the world record holder of the 50m freestyle. He won the title of 50m event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, whereas, he also occupied the gold medals of 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle at the 2009 Rome World
Championships. In addition, Cielo also claimed gold crown of 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly at the 2011 World Championship in Shanghai.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed an astonishing effort of Andre Daudt of ECP/SABESP, who remained only 0.26 seconds behind the third position holder and settled as the fourth finest swimmer of the event by submitting a time of 22.83 seconds. He was followed
by Italo Manzine Duarte of MACKENZIE, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from occupying fourth position and concluded his swim in the fifth fastest place, by reporting in a time of 22.84 seconds.
Likewise, the sixth best spot of the race was claimed by Nicolas Cesar Oliveira of FIAT/MINAS, as he stayed only 0.02 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 22.86 seconds. Oliveira was chased by Walter Pereira Lessa of UNISANTA, as
he secured seventh position of the event, by posting a time of 22.94 seconds. In the meantime, Oliveira’s team-member, Ricardo Oliveira Machado completed his swim in the last place by producing an eighth fastest time of 23.43 seconds.
The arena was thrilled with the presence of world record holder in the competition, while Cielo overwhelmed the efforts of his fellow rivals in a very comfortable manner. Furthermore, the winners received their medals after the session’s completion.
