Cesar Cielo pockets Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Cesar Augusto Cielo Filho of CRF/RJ pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday, April 27.
Cielo Filho, who won gold medal of the same at the 2009 Rome World Championships, dictated terms to his challengers by occupying the national title of the 100m event.
With his impeccable pace, he not only captured gold medal of the discipline but also ensured his place in the Brazilian team for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
His astounding start played a considerable role in his victory as he reached the finishing end with the timing of 48.28 seconds.
His effort was trailed by Marcelo Chierighini of ECP/SABESP, who stayed nearly full body length slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 49.05 seconds for silver medal.
The third finest spot of the race was obtained by Chierighini’s team-member, Frederick Bousquet, who remained just an inch slower from him over the finishing end and produced a time of 49.14 seconds for bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Nicolas Cesar Oliveira, who was just 0.32 seconds slower from outsmarting the bronze medallist and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 49.46 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was occupied by Bruno Fratus of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.05 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 49.51 seconds.
His exhausting pace remained 0.10 seconds ahead of Joao B De Lucca of CRF/RJ, who secured sixth position of the event by producing an effort of 49.61 seconds.
Fernando Ernesto Pires Do occupied seventh position of the discipline as he hit the finishing wall with the timing of 49.77 seconds.
Pires Do was trailed by Nicholas A D Dos Santos, who finished his swim in eighth best place and touched the wall with the timing of 49.79 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s corner while the medal winners were invited on the victory stand for their forceful efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
