Cesar Cielo produces record breaking swim in Guadalajara: 2011 Pan American Games
Brazilian veteran and Olympic champion, Cesar Cielo produced a record breaking splash in a freestyle swimming event at 2011 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Thursday, October 20. The session of the competition organised the Men’s 50m freestyle
final.
Cielo hit the finishing wall in a mouth shattering time of 21.58 seconds to clinch the 50m freestyle title over his competitors, Bruno Fratus of Brazil and Hanser Garcia of Cuba. More importantly, Cesar thrashed down his previous best meet record of 21.84
seconds, set back in 2007. On the other hand, he was not be able to beat his world ranked time of 21.52 seconds, made at the 2011 World Championships edition, in Shanghai.
Cesar Cielo was the gold and bronze medallist in 50m and 100m freestyle events at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. In addition, he captured two gold medals in 50m butterfly and freestyle at the 2011 World Championship editions, in Shanghai. Moreover,
he grabbed three gold titles at the 2007 Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fratus took home the silver medal in the respective race by powering the finishing wall in a stunning time of 22.05 seconds. His swim was short of his previous best meet record of 21.76 seconds, set back at the World Championships. The bronze
title went to Cuba’s athlete, Hanser Garcia with a mark of 22.15 seconds. The effort elevated Garcia into top-25 places in the world rankings of swimming.
The respective race went through some other scintillating results in the evening, as William Copeland of United States of America claimed fourth place honours in a time of 22.30 seconds. Brett Fraser of Cayman earned fifth position in a time of 22.60 seconds,
while Bryan Lundquist of United States of America settled for sixth place in a time of 22.67 seconds.
Roy Allan Burch of Bermuda ended his race at seventh spot in a time of 22.82 seconds, whereas, Grabich Federico of Argentina earned eighth position in the respective meet with a time of 22.97 seconds.
