Cesar Cielo shines in Men’s 50m freestyle meet: Day six – 2011 FINA World Championships
Brazil’s Cesar Cielo dominated the Men’s 50m freestyle heat on day six of the 2011 FINA World Championships, in Shanghai, China, on Friday, July 29. In the corresponding swim, Cielo settled in a tie along with other contestants, Nathan Adrian of United States
and George Bovell of Trinidad with a time of 22.03 seconds.
Speaking about his performance in the respective meet, Cielo stated, “The swim wasn't much of a disappointment, and I feel I couldn't have done better. I've done well with a lot of inspiration and concentration. I'm looking forward to some top speed tonight.”
Cesar has already won the gold medal in the Men’s 50m butterfly meet at the current edition of the championships. With the form he is in, the Brazilian looks very confident to grab his second gold medal in the 50m freestyle meet.
In addition, Cielo snared four gold medals at the 2009 and 2010 editions of the championships, in both Rome and Dubai, respectively. Moreover, he captured the gold medal in the 50m Freestyle splash at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.
Adam Brown of Great Britain snatched fourth spot with a time of 22.08 seconds. In the meantime, Krisztian Takacs of Hungary and Stefan Nystrand of Switzerland earned fifth place honours with a time of 22.15 seconds. Sergey Fesikov of Russia and Marco Orsi
of Italy wound up seventh in a time of 22.16 seconds. Matthew Abood of Australia was placed ninth in a time of 22.17 seconds.
After the heat, Abood commented, “It's a little bit different from what I pictured. I'm just doing the best I can, and focusing on the finish and start.”
Alain Bernard of France finished tenth in 22.19 seconds. Gideon Louw of Russia was placed eleventh in a time of 22.21 seconds, while Luca Dotto of Italy retained twelfth spot in time of 22.25 seconds. Bruno Fratus of Brazil earned thirteenth place in a time
of 22.26 seconds. Matthew Targett was placed fourteenth in 22.31 seconds, whereas, Roland Schoeman of Russia wound up fifteenth in a time of 22.32 seconds.
