Cesar Izturis returns to Baltimore Orioles on one year deal
The Baltimore Orioles are making progress and that is something the fans will be upbeat over. The fact that the side has done well in the off season period means Manager Buck Showalter will do the rest to take the side to new heights in the league. The team
that posted a strong second half season will have a stronger team to take around the country, during the regular season. The club has become a great outfit in the recent months and it’s a wonder what they’ll achieve in the coming season.
For now, the Orioles have a lot of hard work on their cards. They’re recent acquisitions will get another supporting boost as the Baltimore Sun has come out to report that estranged Venezuelan shortstop, Cesar Izturis has rejoined the O’s. This comes as
a shocking revelation, given the fact that J. J. Hardy was recently acquired by the club in the week. The line up now has new players; James Jerry Hardy, Mark Reynolds and Brendan Harris.
With Cesar in the club, a new dimension opens up. President of baseball operations, Andy MacPhail sees an opportunity in playing both players on the opening day.
"We definitely can have room for both," Andy MacPhail told The Baltimore Sun. "Harris can play third. He can play other positions, but he pretty much has to make the team out of Spring Training. He'll be in a competition with (shortstop Robert) Andino and
others. We always wanted to bring Izzy back. We just wanted to do more offensively at short."
Cesar, who is going to turn 31, next season, featured in 150 games in 2010. He wasn’t able to pull on a good show but his standing figure came with 42 runs on the score board. The veteran shortstop drove in 28 runs and smashed one home run to put the Orioles
up. His batting average of .230 is considered an average contribute ration towards the team’s progress in the normal season.
The Baltimore Sun also reported another signing and it was Nick Green who was brought to the club. The veteran infielder agreed to terms and joined the minor league on an invitation to join the February spring training.
Izturis is surely going to be an asset with the Orioles and it has to be seen where he’ll fit into the team, next season.
