La Nazionale head coach reiterated that his side would not be looking to adopt negative tactics in their semi-final clash against European powerhouse, the Germans.
The former Venezia manager has adopted a different style of play for the Italian national team. The project has seen them transform from a side primarily looking to defend and scoring on the counter attack, to a side which is proactive
and attacking.
The change in approach has been welcomed in Italy, but there are critics who feel that the traditional Italian style of play is a tried and tested one. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 have had troubles successfully converting their chances, despite their
enterprising play.
The Italian was quizzed how he felt about reaching the finals of the European Championships, and whether he felt that they would deserve to feature in the final. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 are the favourites to lift the trophy, which is a reason
why such questions were targeted towards the former Fiorentina head coach.
He remarked:
“Would a Final be a dream or closer? I always struggle to think beyond the next match. Let’s try to focus on tomorrow’s game and putting in a great performance, then we’ll see if the Final is a dream, concrete or deserved.”
Prandelli went ahead and stated that he would not be forced into changing his tactics, given the importance of the match ahead. He mentioned that it would be defeating the purpose of the project he has had in place since his inception
as the Azzurri national team head coach.
When quizzed over an ultra defensive approach to frustrate the Germans, the Italian said that it was not the rational thing to do. He went ahead to state:
“It will certainly be open to any result. We have only one real weapon and that is possession. We cannot step backwards in our approach, as it would be unfair and even immature to wipe out two years of work when it comes to the
crunch.”
The Italian went on to comment that despite their proactive approach leaving few spaces behind, it was a risk they had to take as his intention was for his team to play football.
