Cesc Fabregas reiterates commitment to Arsenal
Arsenal are doing very well this season, being the only team in the English Premier League (EPL) playing all four competitions. The Carling Cup final is coming next Sunday against Birmingham, which could possibly be their first silverware since 2005.
This weekend, Arsenal travel to Leyton Orient for their FA Cup tie, which also seems an easy task to accomplish. In the league, Arsenal are sitting in a comfortable second place behind Manchester United but are still in the title race. In the UEFA Champions
League, Arsenal beat Barcelona 2-1 in the first leg and are slightly ahead in the tie.
Everything is going well for Arsenal except for rumours surrounding their captain Cesc Fabregas. The former Barcelona youth player played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s win against his old club, which was a sign of his commitment to the Gunners. However, nothing
can stop the rumours as once again the midfielder is being tipped to move to Barcelona in the coming summer. The media is now linking his named to Real Madrid too, sparking another controversy.
However, the Arsenal captain has reiterated his commitment to the club. The midfielder feels obliged towards Arsene Wenger, who gave him his first chance to play, having picked the young Fabregas from the youth team at the Nou Camp in 2003. There is no doubt
as to the influence Arsenal and Wenger have had on the grooming of the midfielder. If it hadn’t been for Wenger, Fabregas would probably not have had his current status as a world-class midfielder. Therefore, it is natural that he feels indebted to the man
who put his belief in him and turned him into a superstar.
Arsene Wenger is in a race for silverware this season and the long wait seems to be over for the fans. His plan to bring home trophies was the main reason he had stopped Fabregas from going back to Barcelona last summer, as Fabregas had a major part to play
in Wenger’s plans. Fabregas agreed to stay and now plans to return the favour for his mentor by winning trophies for the club. He told the press that he planned to stay for the season and focus all his concentration on winning matches, keeping plans for future
on secondary importance.
In the current Arsenal setup, Fabregas plays an important role as the playmaker. The midfielder has the ability to rotate the ball around the field and he is doing his job expertly. He is creating goals and controlling the flow of the game from the midfield.
He is one of the few players who have stayed at the Emirates Stadium for such a long period. He has also been given the captaincy because of the influence he enjoys in the current batch of Arsenal players.
In short, the midfielder is vital to Wenger’s plans as a playmaker and captain. This is a dual role and both are very important under Wenger’s philosophy of football. If Fabregas had left Arsenal in the summer, or during the winter, Arsenal would have been
in total disarray. There are some players who have emerged as more powerful than Fabregas this season, including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463. But the Spaniard remains the focal point in the team and it is very important that he maintains
his concentration.
At this point, it must also be clear that Barcelona do not need the services of Fabregas yet. This season, none of their players are injured, which is a great sign for them. If the Arsenal captain had joined the Catalans he would have stayed on the bench
for most part of the season. He was not going to replace Xavi Hernandez or Andres Iniesta because the two players are playing better than any other midfielder in the world.
With a clarification regarding his future plans, Fabregas has done a favour to Wenger. The Arsenal manager needs to concentrate on the competitions rather than matters involving players’ transfers. If Arsenal really want to end the trophy drought, they require
undivided attention from every member of the team, directly or indirectly involved in the game.
