Cesc Fabregas says Arsene Wenger convinced him to stay, Gomez frustrated at Bayern
The most talked about transfer saga of this summer was of Arsenal Captain, Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish midfielder was being hunted by Spanish Champions Barcelona. While Arsenal did all they could to hang on to their most prized possession. It was believed that in the end Fabregas would sign Barcelona, but somehow Arsene Wenger managed to hold on to him.
Cesc Fabregas made his way to Arsenal from Barcelona as a 14 year old, since then he has established himself as one of the most talented midfielders not just in England but in Europe. Fabregas was part of Spain’s World Cup winning side, and after the final was forced into a Barca Jersey by his Spanish team mates.
Cesc had expressed his desire for a move to Barcelona, but manager Arsene Wenger convinced him to stay and despite constant approaches by Barcelona, Wenger refused to hold any talks.
Cesc is a Barcelona native and has said that he would love to go back and join his childhood team.
Fabregas said that Barcelona did everything they could to take him to Barcelona. But Arsenal had made it clear that they were not willing to let him go, so he had no option but to stay.
He said that in the end Wenger also convinced him that Arsenal needed him and it would be better for the club if he stayed. He said that he had a long conversation with Arsene Wenger after which he decided to stay in London, but would not reveal the details of that chat.
However, even though Fabregas still remains an Arsenal player, it is an open secret that it is only a matter of time before Barcelona get their way and he would be reunited with his Catalan roots.
Barcelona have openly said that they are confident that Cesc would be a Barca player next season, the number 4 jersey in the squad has already been reserved for the 24-year old.
Barcelona players, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta had made public comments urging Cesc to sign for Barcelona. Both said that they were disappointed that the deal was not done this season, but said that there is no way that Fabregas would spend one more season with Arsenal.
Xavi said he was sure that the deal would be done before 31st of August, but still he knows that next season it will be completed. While Iniesta, talking to a newspaper said that he knew how excited Cesc was to come to Barcelona, and it was only the love for Arsenal fans and the respect for Wenger that kept him there. However, he will have to make the switch next season, as he knows to take the next step in his career he would have to come home (Barcelona).
Meanwhile, Mario Gomez the Bayern Munich Striker said that his club blocked a loan move to Liverpool right on the deadline day. Gomez who is a German international has not been able to feature regularly in the first team for Bayern and has been frustrated for a while. He signed for Bayern Munich last season from Stuttgart.
Gomez said that he was very excited for a temporary move to Liverpool, and thought he would be able to get some first team action at Anfield. But Bayern intentionally did not allow him to go, and if he is not given enough opportunities in the first team this season it would be a waste.
Gomez said that he was enjoying his time in Stuttgart and that he signed for Bayern to make the step up, but it has not turned out the way he had wanted.
