Cesc Fabregas wanted by FC Internazionale
Arsenal’s captain, Cesc Fabregas is reported to be on the wish-list of Massimo Moratti, FC Internazionale’s president.
The Spanish international chose to stay with the north-London side, Arsenal, only after they refused to sell him to his home-town club FC Barcelona, this summer. The Gunners demanded a hefty transfer fee from the Spanish champions, believed to
be around €50 million. Barca’s refusal to pay such money for the services of the midfielder broke down the transfer deal.
Now, the Italian Champions Inter Milan are thought to be interested in bringing the mercurial player to San Siro, and are planning a bid of €50 million; Arsenal may not be able to resist such a lucrative offer by the Nerazzurri.
Inter’s manager Rafael Benitez has not been able to emulate the success of his predecessor Jose Mourinho, under whom the club won the treble last season. Inter Milan are currently 9 points adrift of Seria A leader and arch rivals, AC Milan. It
is thought that Inter Milan might be planning a big-name signing this summer, and Fabregas might fit the bill.
Cesc injured his hamstring during the UEFA Champions League defeat on Tuesday night against SC Braga.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger told the press about the player’s condition after the match.
He said, “It could be two to three weeks. It is a hamstring injury– on the other leg – so it's difficult to predict how long Cesc will be out for. It is very disappointing because I had a hesitation to play him (Fabregas) before the match started.
I took the gamble and it backfired on us”.
While reflecting on the 2-0 away defeat in the Champions League, Wenger hit out on the match officials. The Frenchman felt that he was on the wrong end of the referee’s decisions in the crucial moments of the game. Arsene slammed the 5-official
system employed by UEFA, and termed it as “useless”, after Gunners were hard done when they were denied a penalty appeal by Carlos Vela. To add insult to the injury, the forward was shown a yellow card for diving in the box.
The 61-year old manager, while criticizing the referee’s decision, said, “It is difficult to understand how we did not get a penalty. The five referees is not an answer to the problem. The turning point was the penalty - I still cannot understand
how Vela got a yellow card. It remains a complete mystery.
The referee gave some surprising decisions tonight. It is hard to swallow.”
Arsenal are currently 2nd in their group in the Champions League, and are not guaranteed qualification. The Gunners would have to beat FK Partizan in the last match of the group stage to have any chance of making to the
last 16 of the competition.
