How do you enter a radio frequency such as 118.375? A fellow student pilot and I went on a time building cross country flight and couldn't listen to ASOS because we could only get up to the hundredth decimal place to show up in the display. (eg, 118.37) I could have sworn we set it to the ASOS frequency during an earlier flight to the same location...

  1. Depending on the radio there is either a small white(unless color is worn off)switch near the k***s that you flick, or the small k**b used for the decimal point you pull out and turn.  Once you flick the switch or pull the k**b the freq. will change and you see/hear it.  I had the same problem when i was a student too.  I had to fly over a town to get cell phone reception and then call ASOS.  Boy did I feel like an idiot when my instructor showed me how to do it.  So don't be like me!

  2. If you saw 118.37, you dialed in 118.375. 118.370 is not a legal frequency in the United States,  Many aircraft radios don't display the hundredth decimal place. You may have to pull out a ring on the k**b to dial in some frequencies.

  3. In addition to the k***s, there is a toggle switch on the panel.  Use the k***s to set in 118.35, and flip up the switch to bump this to 118.375 -- which will show in the frequency display as  118.37.

  4. Not familiar with the radio on the Cessna, but maybe the last digit is burned out? VHF radios have had 25KHz spacing for quite some time, and Europe is now using 8.33KHz spacing.
