Cevat Yerli on Crysis 3 PC version – Video Games Update
Crytek CEO has revealed at Gamescom that the team acknowledges that gamers were disappointed with the PC version of Crysis 2 as it did not push the hardware to the limits.
Crytek became popular after the release of Crysis on PC which was considered too advance for its time and was hailed as the best looking game that year. Even now it can still hold its own against many of the latest shooters and is often used for benchmarking
new graphics cards.
Crysis was followed by the standalone expansion pack title called Crysis Warhead which featured a new campaign and addressed many of the issues gamers had with the first game. Warhead was much better optimised but managed to still look as good as the original.
PC Gamers were somewhat worried when Crytek announced that Crysis 2 would be developed side by side for PC and consoles. Crytek assured users that console development of Crysis 2 would not affect the PC version of the game.
That turned out not to be the case as the PC version of Crysis 2 did look good but it was still a console port and lacked many of the graphical options found in the first game. The game also had less open world areas and comprised mainly of tight corridors
to accommodate the console versions. Crytek did however add the high resolution textures, DirectX 11 support and advance Graphics options to the PC version of Crysis 2 through updates.
This time Yerli is promising that Crysis 3 is going to push PCs to the limits as the team would be concentrating on the PC version of the game.
“In Crysis we were only for PC so there weren’t limitations. There is unfortunately always in a multi-platform development that kind of compromise that we have to take but at the same time we are trying not to take it, so we try to make sure that the PC
version looks fantastic, plays fantastic, and this time we’re saying ‘Okay, let’s not compromise the PC but let’s try to push the consoles so make the PC version happen,’” stated Yerli explaining the difficulties and challenges of multiplatform development.
Yerli claims that Crysis 3 is going to ‘melt’ down PCs which is great news for PC gamers with a high end rig. The game comes out next year in February.
