Cezar Ferreira defeats Sergio Moraes to claim TUF: Brazil middleweight tourney – UFC News
Cezar Ferreira, the surging Brazilian middleweight, outpointed his Saturday night opponent Sergio Moraes, to not only grab a unanimous decision but to also win The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil middleweight tourney. The three-round bout took place on June 23,
as part of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s ‘UFC 147: Franklin vs. Silva’ pay-per-view.
The event was televised live from Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Besides the aforementioned spectacular bouts, the event also had Fabricio Werdum taking on Mike Russow in a non-title three-round heavyweight showdown.
Cezar was basically a finalist of UFC’s live television programme ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil’ edition. Sergio, on the other hand, was a last minute replacement for Daniel Sarafian, who withdrew the event due to an injury.
Undoubtedly, this was an opportunity for both the fighters to make it to UFC’s hefty middleweight division. Unfortunately, Moraes was left behind when Cezar outfoxed him in the ring.
Ferreira, 27, was entering his career’s seventh mixed martial art bout. The young lad was coming off a knockout loss to Elvis Mutapcic. Therefore, he was in a dire need to make a comeback on the win track.
Also known as ‘Serginho’, Moraes participated in different Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions and collected several medals. It is this reason why the odds were somewhat in favour of Sao Paulo proud.
Both men, who exchanged substantial numbers of jabs and kicks, equally dominated the first round.
During the second round, Sergio displayed his full might by aggressively attacking Cezar, battering him with a wave of jabs. The intensity of the attack flattened Ferreira on the octagon mat. However, Cezar immediately recovered and got hold himself to put
a tougher fight for his opponent.
The third round initiated in the same manner with both men throwing everything they had at each other. Despite the fact that Sergio connected some well targeted jabs or strikes, the judges seemed to favour Cezar.
Ferreira eventually won the three-round finale of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil tourney by collecting 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27 scores. With this win, Cezar is now back on the win track and has collected his fifth career win.
Sergio, on the other hand, has received his second career loss and will now again wait for another chance to become part of UFC.
