Chac Du Cadran steals the show in North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase
Chac Du Cadran displayed an excellent effort to claim the North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase (for the Denys Smith Challenge Trophy) at Catterick in England on Thursday, January 11, 2013.
Despite not being rated as the favourite to succeed, he outperformed his rivals comprehensively. No one managed to come even closer to him in the end, as he was at his best.
The seven-year-old gelding entered the race with a starting price of 11 to 2 and gained lead pretty early. Although, the overall distance to cover was 3 miles and 6 furlongs, yet he held the lead from the start until the end.
He crossed the finish line with an overall lead of eight lengths, which was quite impressive, especially on a soft ground at Catterick.
His trainer, Chris Bealby, was delighted with the result and said that his challenger thoroughly deserved to finish on top of the table in the end. He praised the overall effort of the team and aimed to do well in the coming events.
He deserves it and Tom deserves it,” said Bealby. “He's an underrated jockey and it was a great ride. The horse is lazy and has been running well over three miles so we thought we'd take a step in at the deep end and he's outstayed them.”
However, the skilful trainer did not reveal any future plans of Chac Du Cadran. He said that there are a few events in sight, but nothing has been confirmed yet. He did stress that a lot of hard work is needed to win more races with consistency.
He added, “Where we go next I'm not sure. I'll see what the handicapper does and he could get into an Eider Chase, but I think he'll have a break. Where we go next I'm not sure. I'll see what the handicapper does and he could get into an Eider Chase, but

On the other hand seasoned trainer, Venetia Williams, would have been disappointed to see her stallion, Pentiffic, finish way down the order. He was given the highest odds for victory, but had to settle for sixth place overall.
