Chachamaidee thrives in Bet365 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood
Chachamaidee, trained by Sir Henry Cecil, put her journey back on the winning ways by bagging a cosy success in the Bet365 Lennox Stakes, held at Goodwood on Tuesday, July 31st.
The 5-year-old was an unlucky loser at Royal Ascot in June, when missing the glory only by a neck’s distance in the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes. The bay mare won a Group 3 event at Goodwood last season, and refreshing the sweet memories, she clinched an
authoritative victory over her male counterparts in the 7-furlong meeting.
She was slowly into stride, and held up early on. She recovered smoothly, making herself prominent a couple of furlongs before the wire. Under Tom Queally, she quickened to lead entering final furlong, and was well in command thereafter.
After establishing her dominance, she kept running well, and stretched her advantage considerably. She was uncatchable in the final moments and following a tremendous effort, she secured the top prize by one and a half lengths.
The spectators witnessed a nail-biting clash for the runner-up spot. Mac Love and Libranno ran equally well, but the latter eventually pocketed the second prize by a short head’s distance. In the hands of Richard Hughes, Richard Hannon’s charge chased the
leading pair early on.
The 4-year-old tried his best to overtake the champion runner in the final 75 yards, but failed to do the trick. However, he did well to lock the second spot. Firebeam grabbed the fourth position by a head’s distance, while Foxtrot Romeo completed the order
of five.
Expressing delight over a comprehensive victory, Chachamaidee’s jockey said: "It's nice to finally hit the bullseye with her. They went a lovely gallop and it suited me from where I was. She quickened up nicely and has a great turn of foot. Fillies have
a bad enough record in this race so it's great."
Owner Tony Evans added: "Henry has done us proud with this horse. She's just fantastic, and we've also got an unraced two-year-old with him. She won here last year and she's now won a Group Three and a Group Two, so we'd really like to win a Group One. I
don't know where though."
