http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818 striker Chad Barrett dislocated his ankle in the training session on Sunday, November 13, at The Home Depot Center and would not be taking part in the upcoming final.
Timing of the injury could not have been worse as the Galaxy are scheduled for the final showdown. They take on Houston Dynamo in the 2011 MLS Cup final on November 20.
“It was such an odd situation, the whole thing,” Galaxy defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Todd-Dunivant-c35186 said. “His cleat got stuck in the ground and his leg just rolled over. That’s unsettling when you see that.”
After a successful season with los Galacticos, Barrett had a chance to represent his native club in the MLS finale but the ankle injury will keep him out for at least two months.
The LA are scheduled to travel to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 at the end of November. Barrett will not be joining his teammates for these club friendlies.
The player was acquired from the Canadian outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744, at the start of the season and despite being fresh in the roster, he cemented his name in the line-up right from the start.
In addition to being one of the most reliable players in the LA roster, the player blended perfectly with the Irish import, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robbie-Keane-c31215, in attack. He effectively filled up the void in the latter part of the season when Keane was dealing with his own injuries.
Although los Galacticos have replacements for the San Diego-born striker, his presence on the frontline will be greatly missed.
“From the team standpoint, he’s been a big part of our playoff run and we’re certainly going to miss him, but we’ve had those things happen all year and we’ve been able to cope with them,” Galaxy captain Landon Donovan said. “I’m sad for him, individually,
because he had the chance to play for a championship in front of his home crowd and he’s meant so much to us this year.”
The hit man played a key part in Galaxy’s successful run through the playoffs in collaboration with Keane and actively participated in setting up all the play-off goals.
