Chad Brown going with Samitar and Dayatthespa for the QE II Challenge Cup
Horseman Chad Brown has been wreaking havoc last few days by sweeping graded stakes races for 2-year-olds, and his recent rampage at Keeneland and Belmont Park much imitated to that of Todd Pletcher’s, and if any trainer could relate doing anything like Pletcher than that means they are on the verge of achieving greatness, and so it seems with Chad Brown.
The up-and coming Chad Brown saddled a winner in the tough Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes when Balance the Books rallied to a fine winner, and on the same card at Belmont Park he sent out Noble Tune to sweep the Pilgrim Stakes, with a back of the field run to wire, and same was achieved by, Watsdachances, in the Miss Grillo Stakes.
Back at Keeneland, Chad Brown is in no mood to halt the progress, as he looks for another major Grade 1 sweep, albeit one restricted to 3-year-old fillies. He has targeted the big turf event at Keeneland by entering, a British bred imported by Michael Schwartz, Samitar, and also opted for the New York bred, Dayatthespa to represent their trainer in the Grade 1, $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup.
The 3-year-old filly by Rock of Gibraltar, Samitar, despite a few hiccups, had a pretty decent season, and was swooped up Schwartz after she won the Group1 Irish 1,000 Guineas at a mile at Curragh on 27 May.
The filly has made 2 starts on American soil, and her debut race there was the Grade 2 Lake George Stakes over 1 1/16 miles, where she finished third to, Centre Court.
Out of Rainbow Quest mare Aileen’s Gift, Samitar justified Schwartz’s trust and bagged her connections the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes over 1 1/8 miles at Belmont Park.
Dayatthespa is currently on a hot winning streak, and hasn’t lost a single race this season. She is four up in as many starts.
The City Zip filly has raced once over the QE II Cup distance of 1 1/8 miles and won it at Gulfstream Park in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes.
With these two rampant fillies, Chad Brown is looking good at Keeneland, where fall is serene and beautiful.
