Chad Brown’s filly contingent grew stronger as Frank Stronach added some fire power in the shape of Awesome Feather, Her Smile and Diva Ash
Trainer Chad Brown is flexing his muscles and showing the depth of his stable by taking out the undefeated, Awesome Feather, into training and Stronach Stables new purchases, Her Smile and Diva Ash.
The undefeated daughter of Awesome Of Course, out of mare Precious Feather by Gone West, Awesome Feather has been undefeated in 8 starts with a perfect 2010 season. Though she has been lightly raced this season, but responded in style when asked to race
in two stakes races which also included a Grade 1 race.
Le Slew Stakes was Awesome Feather’s first win of the 2011 season which came late in the season on 5 October, 2011, against fillies her own age at about seven furlongs.
She blew past her competition to win the race at Belmont Park with the winning time of 1 minute and 22.76 seconds.
With not enough racing experience this year, Breeders’ Cup was not on the cards for the filly, but she targeted the Grade 1 Gazelle Stakes and zeroed in on it.
She ran her career record to a perfect eight to nothing as she emerged as the 5 ¼ lengths victor in the race. She is one of those fillies who size up their competition and get mad. That is exactly what she did and found her second wind to create havoc on
the race course.
Awesome Feather defeated the likes of Draw It and Love and Pride, who finished second and third, respectively, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles which she tried for the first time and topped it in 1 minute and 50.01 seconds.
The Florida bred filly is in training at Payson Park for Frank Stronach. Stronach’s other recent buys consist of Her Smile, the filly exited the Breeders’ Cup with a 3rd place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.
The 3-year-old Diva Ash was among the buys as well. “If all goes well we’ll look at the Hurricane Bertie for Her Smile’s next start,” said Brown. “Diva Ash just got here, so I’ll take some time to feel her out before we decide what we want to do with her
next.”
