Chad Campbell honours his home town and opens a new training facility
Chad Campbell paid a visit to his home turf, Andrews County Golf Course, for the unveiling of the Chad Campbell training facility on Friday.
The professional American golfer was highly respectful towards his former coach, George Boynton, and the fans who showed up on the facility.
Campbell, who helped open the new indoor facility in his hometown, said that the people here are highly reverent and it is a great honour to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.
His approach towards his hometown was very ethnocentric. He stated that the property is not the prettiest looking facility that one will come across but if one is from this place, they will believe otherwise.
The 38-year-old Campbell turned professional back in 1996 and played his first Professional Golf Association Tour tournament in 1998. Although the American earned his first tour card in 2002, he had already tasted golf at the highest
level.
Campbell is a famous figure in his community and has, throughout his career, received unmatched support. That is the reason why the American golfer frequently visits the place that started it all.
The Chad Campbell Classic was hosted a few years back and the funds that were collected from the tournament went directly into the construction of the facility.
While speaking in front of a large crowd of people, Campbell said, “I’ve wanted to do something for a while and it had never really happened, (Andrews Golf Booster Club president) Bill (Morrison) contacted me and he just kind of ran
with it. I owe the Booster Club everything.
“What I did was small. They worked really hard to get all of this done, and it means a lot for me to come back and have the tournament and see the opening.
"Hopefully we can keep that going and keep raising money for the kids, because they deserve it".
The girls’ head coach Mark Burgen of the Andrews said that the community is blessed to have a successful golfer like Campbell.
He said that the golfer is a highly influential figure and has encouraged the promotion of golf across the region.
