Chad Dawson: I’m going to use my height, my reach, and my overall athleticism and talents – Boxing News
WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson will be facing Andre Ward at the Oracle Arena in Oakland this Saturday. The match is already being dubbed as one of the most enthralling ones of this year, and surely it will be so.
Dawson, while speaking with FightNews regarding his opponent, asserted that Ward is a great fighter and he has the ability to adapt to his opponents.
When asked about Ward’s fighting style, Dawson answered, “He’s a good fighter and he does a lot of things right. He adapts to his opponents’ style, and he does a great job of keeping up the tempo of the fight to take the early rounds.”
As expected, Dawson revealed he would use his height and reach advantage to overpower Ward.
“I’m going to use my height, my reach, and my overall athleticism and talents. I’m going to be the stronger fighter in the ring, and I am the taller fighter. I’m going to make Andre Ward come to me and fight my fight,” said Dawson.
“We’ve been working on a lot of things in the gym. I don’t want to give the game plan away, but I will say that we’ve been working hard to use my height, size, and overall boxing skills,” he added.
Dawson was then asked about his relationship with trainer Scully, and the ups and downs they have been through. The light heavyweight champion revealed that Scully knows him since the time he was eight years old and so they make a great team.
According to Dawson, they know each other in and out of the ring, which makes it a good combination. Furthermore, Dawson asserted that Scully knows how to motivate him and he knows how to get him in the mode that he needs to be in, in order to win.
For now, Dawson is of the view that Ward can be beaten with a strategic game. According to Dawson, he has height and reach advantage over Ward, which makes him more inclined towards winning the showdown. However, most analysts believe both fighters are of
the same calibre and so it is difficult to decide who is the better one for now.
