Chad Dawson believes Bernard Hopkins is a scared man – Boxing News
World’s oldest boxing champion Bernard Hopkins is on the verge of retiring, at least that is what his upcoming opponent Chad Dawson thinks. Dawson went on one on with Hopkins in October last year. During the bout, Dawson tossed Hopkins down to the mat and
dislocated his left shoulder.
Hopkins, who is 47 and holds the WBC middleweight title, is respected by the entire boxing fraternity for his efforts even at this age. However, Dawson thinks that it is about time Hopkins should hang his gloves. Talking about Hopkins, Dawson iterated, “I
saw a scared old man. A guy who really did not want to be in the ring. His whole demeanor, his body movement, just the look in his eyes, you could tell he really did not want to be there. I don't know if he underestimated me before we got into the ring or
he didn't train that hard. I don't know what it was but he found a way out that night. The fact Bernard has done things like this in the past, I mean you'd think the commission, the referee, the WBC would take it into consideration. They didn't. They awarded
him the title back.”
Dawson added that the best thing is that he got his hands on Hopkins again, which was something Hopkins did not want but he was forced to do it.
On the other hand, Hopkins, who is known for his trash talking, has actually vowed to keep silent this time around. In his previous interview, Hopkins said that he will not utter even a single word for Dawson and everything will be decided in the ring.
However, in his recent interview when asked about hometown advantage, Hopkins said that there is no hometown advantage for him and that he does not believe in ‘hometown advantage’ either. According to Hopkins, there will be judges, referees and politics
and that there is no hometown advantage for him since for him rules are different.
He further said that the rules are always different for anyone who stands up for what he believes in unlike Dawson who strives on traditional rules.
