Chad Dawson finally gets a rematch against Bernard Hopkins – Boxing news
The much anticipated rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson is finally here.
After their last controversial encounter, which first ended up in a KO but later changed to No Contest, this will be the first time both the fighters will meet in the ring. The rematch is scheduled to be held on April 28, at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic
City.
Their previous fight ended up with Hopkins’ shoulder dislocation. Initially, Dawson was awarded the win through KO but the belts were decided not be exchanged. Later on, the California State Athletic Commission decided that the results should be changed
from KO to No Contest, since Hopkins was injured during the fight.
On the rematch, Hopkins said, “Since 2001, when I was 35 and I beat (Felix) ‘Tito’ Trinidad (to become undisputed middleweight champion in 2001), I’ve been hearing I was too old. Now it’s 12 years later and I’m older, heavier and feel little things I didn’t
feel 10 years ago, natural things that are supposed to happen to you. But I’m ahead of the game against any 47-year-old who took a punch or never took a punch. I’m in great shape and ready to do this again.”
Currently, none of the boxers have a huge fan following for which reason the rematch is not expected to do good revenue wise. Even the last match did not turn out to be a good bet for HBO as a pay-per-view event.
However, the channel, after realising the fallouts, has decided to air the bout but not as a pay-per-view event.
Hopkins further added that it is about time for both the fighters to give their fans what they paid for last time. Realizing the fact that the last fight turned out to be a disaster, Hopkins said that the fans did not come to the venue to see a match of
just one and a half round, and that also ended up in jeopardy. He wants to give it the last shot and make the most out of it.
On the other hand, even Dawson is waiting for the shot to gain the title which he could not last time.
