Chad Dawson says he will stay humble even if he beats Bernard Hopkins – Boxing news
Chad ‘the Bad’ Dawson, who is the former WBC, IBF and IBO light heavyweight champion, has revealed he does not like to do trash talking ahead of his fights, as the 29-year-old pugilist believes the best storm is a quiet storm.
Dawson, who will challenge the current World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion, Bernard Hopkins, in a 12-round bout this weekend on October 15, 2011 in Los Angeles, California, told the media he does not feel comfortable declaring things
ahead of the bout.
Dawson, who carries a record of winning 30 of his 32 professional fights (1 no contest), including 17 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, admitted trash talk creates hype ahead of the fight due to which people flock to the arena. However, on the
same note he insisted a quiet storm is more dangerous as it cannot be seen by anyone.
Dawson said, “Even when I'm at home, people tell me, 'Hey, you've got to talk more trash. If you talk more trash, you get more attention.' But me doing that, that's me stepping out my character. That's not something I feel comfortable doing. Even with all
the trash Bernard has been talking, I just keep it quiet and low-key. The best storm is a quiet storm. That's the one you don't see coming.”
In the end, Dawson remarked even if he wins Hopkins he will stay humble. He also added he is going to stay the same throughout his boxing career.
“I plan on staying that way for the rest of my career,” he said. “No matter what fortune and fame I get, I'm still going to be humble Chad Dawson.”
The 46-year-old Executioner, Hopkins, who has won 52 of his 60 professional fights (2 Draws, 1 no contest), with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, became the oldest boxer to win a heavyweight title after he beat Jean Pascal in May 2011. He
has claimed he is going to make history once again by defending his title against Dawson. Therefore, Dawson will not get an easy night. However, let’s see if Dawson can really beat Hopkins in the ring.
