Chad Jones waived by New York Giants after failing physical – NFL News
The New York Giants have waived safety, Chad Jones, after the player failed to clear the team’s physicals.
Jones was drafted by the Giants in the 2010 National Football League (NFL) draft, but he was yet to make his debut.
Soon after being selected by the Giants, Jones suffered a car accident and nearly got himself killed. Fortunately, he survived but he broke bones in his leg and ankle and was in no position to step on the field.
Jones missed the 2010 season and was hoping to make his debut in the 2011 season. However, his injury was so serious that he had not completely recovered before the start of the season and was again left out.
Recently, Jones spoke of optimism about his future, saying that he was recovering at fast pace and that he was expecting himself to join the team’s training camp this summer.
Although different reports suggested that he was not hundred percent fit, Jones said he would take as many reps as he could.
Recently, he attempted to participate in the team’s three-day rookie minicamp, but was not given clearance by the team management.
As of the latest, he had another opportunity to prove his fitness but he could not clear the team’s physicals and was eventually released.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, said of Jones:
“We consider Chad to be part of the Giants family, and we'll continue to work with him in his rehab. As we've said since his accident, we're thankful he is alive and able to lead a normal life.”
According to Giants’ associate team physician, Dr. Scott Rodeo:
“[Jones] has made a remarkable recovery to date, with successful salvage of the leg.  However, at this time he has residual sensory loss, muscle weakness, and tenuous soft tissue coverage in the involved lower leg. The resultant functional impairment precludes
his ability to perform physically at the level required for professional football.”
On the other hand, Jones’ agent, Rocky Arceneaux, has thanked Giants’ management on behalf of his client, saying that he is grateful for the support and prayers of the team and fans.
