Chad La Tourette captures Men’s 800m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Chad La Tourette of Mission Viejo captured gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle on first day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Thursday, May 10.
The 23-year-old La Tourette devastated his opponents by seizing gold medal of the distant freestyle event in a wonderful manner.
With his stupendous efforts, he stayed prominently ahead of his closest swimmer, Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine from the start and emerged on the finishing wall for gold medal.
La Tourette gained a lead of almost two body lengths in the first two rounds of the event, where he clocked a time of 1 minute and 58.32 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 2.06 seconds ahead of the 21-year-old Jaeger, who ended his initial 200 metres of the discipline by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 00.38 seconds.
Subsequently, the leading swimmer continued his supremacy in the subsequent two rounds of the event as he finished his first half of the race by touching the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 59.86 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 2.08 seconds faster from his strongest challenger, Jaeger, who ended his initial half of the 800m event by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 01.94 seconds.
The same continued in the next two rounds, where La Tourette went full rampant and ended his 600 metres of the swim by producing a time of 5 minutes and 59.60 seconds. On the other hand, Jaeger remained almost four seconds apart and posted a time of 6 minutes
and 03.30 seconds.
La Tourette continued his smothering efforts in the last two rounds and reached the finishing end first with the timing of 7 minutes and 58.91 seconds while Jaeger finished second with an effort of 8 minutes and 00.81 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Sean Ryan of Scenic City, who remained almost seven seconds behind and posted 8 minutes and 07.43 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events while the competition will end on May 13 after all swimming events.
