Chad Le Clos claims Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day seven - South African LC Nationals
Chad guy Bertrand Le Clos of KZNA-KZ claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on seventh day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Sunday, April 22.
The 20-year-old Le Clos, who is the world and Commonwealth champion, dictated terms to his challengers and proved his mettle for gold medal of the event.
With his epic performance, he stayed considerably faster from his fellow swimmers and emerged on the medal rostrum for gold medal by touching the wall with an effort of 52.45 seconds.
Le Clos’s gold winning effort remained 0.09 seconds slower from the Olympic A-Time Qualification Standard of 52.36 seconds.
His title-claiming effort was trailed by Dylan Bosch of CGA-CG, who settled on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 53.89 seconds.
The 18-year-old Bosch enjoyed an advantage of 0.54 seconds over his subsequent swimmer and his teammate, Neil C Watson, who occupied bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 54.43 seconds.
Watson was chased by Heinrich Alberts of LP-LP, who was only 0.23 seconds behind and ended his swim in fourth best place by producing a time of 54.66 seconds.
The fourth position holder was followed by Nico Meyer of NTS-NT, who clocked a timing of 54.76 seconds and secured fifth position of the 100m event.
The sixth position of the event was obtained by Wesley Gilchrist of KZNA-KZ, who remained half a second behind and posted a time of 55.26 seconds.
Subsequently, Garth V Tune of NTS-NT stayed 0.10 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher as he tapped the finishing end for seventh place by clocking a time of 55.36 seconds.
His forceful effort remained 0.53 seconds faster from his following challenger and his team-member, Craig Jordens, who failed to overpower any of his opponents and earned eighth position of the discipline by posting a time of 55.89 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the conclusion of all swimming events while the position holders were awarded accolades for their ruthless efforts at the prize ceremony of the event.
