Chad Le Clos clinches Men’s 200m IM gold medal: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Chad Guy Bertrand Le Clos of KZNA-KZ clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day six of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 20-year-old Le Clos, who is the world champion of Short Course 200m butterfly, continued his nerve-wrecking pace in the 200m IM and captured gold medal of the discipline.
With his stupendous efforts, he remained nearly half body length ahead of his following swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.97 seconds for gold medal.
His scintillating form remained 0.37 seconds ahead of Darian Townsend, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.34 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Sebastien Rousseau of WPA-WP, who sustained his third position in the playoff and secured bronze medal of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 00.37 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Dylan Bosch of CGA-CG, who stayed full body length behind and surfaced on the wall with a fourth best effort of 2 minutes and 01.55 seconds.
The 18-year-old Bosch was chased by Riaan Schoeman of KZNA-KZ, remained nearly two seconds slower from him and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.37 seconds for fifth position.
Schoeman was traced by Ayrton Sweeney of WPA-WP, who suffered a loss of nearly three seconds from him and ended his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 06.23 seconds for sixth position.
The 18-year-old Sweeney was trailed by Martin Vogel of CGA-CG, who remained nearly 1.50 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.74 seconds.
Vogel was chased by Van Achterbergh of KZNA-KZ, who failed to overpower any of his competitors and ended his race in eighth place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 08.95 seconds.
In addition, the position holders of 200m IM collected awards and accolades for their notable efforts after the session.
