Chad Le Clos earns Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Chad Guy Bertrand Le Clos of KZNA-KZ earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on fourth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 20-year-old Le Clos, who qualified into the playoff as finest swimmer, lived up to the expectations of his supporters by sustaining his position in the final round.
With his utter determination and strong commitment, Le Clos spoiled the party of his opponents and snared gold medal of the event.
He remained nearly one and a half body length ahead of his strongest competitor and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 56.17 seconds.
He was trailed by Sebastien Rousseau of WPA-WP, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 57.88 seconds.
The 21-year-old Rousseau was chased by Dylan Bosch of CGA-CG, who earned bronze medal of the discipline by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 59.57 seconds.
The 18-year-old Bosch was trailed by Heinrich Alberts of LP-LP, who stayed nearly two seconds slower from his former finisher and appeared on the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.73 seconds for fourth position.
Alberts was chased by Pierre De Waal of NTS-NT, who was only 0.16 seconds behind and proved his eligibility for fifth fastest spot of the race by posting a time of 2 minutes and 01.89 seconds.
De Waal was trailed by Van Der Merwe of Fsa-FS, who occupied sixth best spot of the race by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 02.68 seconds.
Merwe was trailed by Wesley Gilchrist of KZNA-KZ, who finished his swim in seventh best place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 02.73 seconds.
The 19-year-old Martin V Vogel of CGA-CG remained nearly one second behind his preceding swimmer and ended eighth with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.83 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the winners received accolades for their notable efforts in the 200m event after the session.
