Chad Le Clos wins Men’s 200m IM title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Chad Le Clos won his second gold medal in the Individual Medley (IM) event on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. Earlier, he won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly meet with a scintillating
mark of 50.66 seconds.
The evening session conducted the Men’s 200m Individual Medley final, where South Africa’s Chad Le Clos was facing rivals, Austria’s Dinko Jukic and Japan’s Yuma Kosaka. The race began in thrilling fashion, as all three favourite swimming contestants, Le
Clos, Jukic and Kosaka were engaged in a neck-to-neck battle. The Commonwealth medallist, Chad Le Clos lived up to the expectations of his fans by hitting the finishing wall with a record-breaking mark of 1 minute and 55.14 seconds to win the 200m IM title.
In the corresponding swim, both Jukic and Kosaka went on to win silver and bronze medals by posting an impressive time of 1 minute and 56.10 and 1 minute and 56.93 seconds, respectively. In addition, Masafumi Yamaguchi of Japan improved her swim by finishing
fourth as she touched the finishing wall with a time of 2 minutes and 01.09 seconds. Moreover, s***n Makovich of Russia earned fifth place honours in the respective meet with a matchless time of 2 minutes and 01.14 seconds.
Ukraine’s Maksym Shemberev finished sixth in a time of 2 minutes and 01.81 seconds, while United Arab Emirates’ Ahmed Obaid Jasmi Al ended seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 06.08 seconds. India’s Jayaprakash Agnishwar touched the finishing wall and ended
his swim at eighth spot in the respective meet with a mark of 2 minutes and 06.31 seconds.
The efforts of all the swimmers impressed the audience, while the top-three players were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion. The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is an important series as it is offering an exciting opportunity to all
athletes to prepare themselves hard for futuristic meets, which includes the 2012 Olympic Games to be staged in London.
