Chad Mendes: I want to avenge Jose Aldo loss and prove I am the best featherweight – UFC News
Chad Mendes, the surging young American mixed martial art brawler, in a recent interview commented that he wants to avenge his career’s only loss and take on Jose Aldo one more time to prove that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the featherweight
division.
Mendes, 27, recently collided with Jose Aldo, the current UFC featherweight champion, and unfortunately got knocked out by the Brazilian knockout specialist at UFC 142. This was Chad’s very first title bout but things did not go well for the American prospect.
It is this reason why in a recent interview Chad shared his sheer urge and desire to take on once again the UFC champion in order to not only skim his career’s only loss off his resume and above all prove that he is the best in the division.
Chad stated, “For me, it's about beating Aldo now. That's my first loss, and I want to get in there and prove to the world that I can be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters.” The resilient belligerent Chad further added, “I was ready to get back in
there as soon as possible. For me, I always do better when I'm competing on a regular basis. I feel like I get better faster. Obviously I'm learning more stuff when I'm in there.”
Mendes’ desire can only be fulfilled by UFC bout-maker Joe Silva but only after he takes on his upcoming opponent Cody McKenzie. Chad is currently scheduled to take on Cody in a non-title three-round bout which will be held on UFC 148.
The duo will meet on the preliminary card of the pay-per-view being headlined by the heavily hyped championship bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. When asked as to what he thinks about his current opponent and former training partner Cody, Chad
did not show any signs of intimidation rather expressed his views in a cool manner.
Also known as ‘The Money’, Chad commented that Cody has a unique and somewhat awkward style of brawling adding that as per his analysis the Alaskan McKenzie is an expert at ground game and is deficient in taking on opponents in the straight forward stance
of the sport.
Chad further added that he will keep the above facets in mind and will concentrate in training and enhancing his ground game in order to tackle Cody well in the octagon. Mendes again shifted on the Jose Aldo-topic and remarked that he still is on the top
adding that a few more wins will again put him against Jose in a title contention bout.
Mendes has been in a total 12 mixed martial art bouts and boasts an impressive resume with 11 wins – two coming via knockout, another two by submission and seven by decision.
