Chad Ochocinco Predicts Bengals Super Bowl Win
Can you imagine what the NFL would be like without Chad Ochocinco? The star wide receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals never leaves us any shortage of entertainment and provides football fans with a fun side to the game each and every Sunday.
Some may not like him, others may adore him. The very fact that he went so far as to legally change his name from Johnson to Ochocinco (which translates to eight and five in Spanish, or eighty-five, his number) shows us the wacky personality that he has. Surely, his charisma has set him up for a television career once he’s done with football.
Now Ochocinco has made a bold prediction, which some may see as ridiculous and just Chad being Chad, while others may see it as a sign of confidence from the Bengals and a legitimate prediction.
The Bengals have struggled in recent years, but they started strong last season and won the AFC North with a 10-6 record, their second division title of the decade. However, in this decade, the team lost in the first round in both years it has made the playoffs. After they tailed off at the end of last season, losing to the Jets twice to close out their season, many are prepared to deem last season as a fluke and that the Bengals will be a mediocre-to-decent team in 2010.
The charismatic Ochocinco is definitely not thinking that way: “A Super Bowl ring. I believe that Super Bowl ring will be this year.”
Ochocinco also went on to say that he will claim two rings this year. He responded to Lebron James' signing with the Miami Heat and claimed: “I just talked to Pat Riley (president of the Heat). When I see the ends, I’ll be coming off the bench for the Heat. I can average 10 points per game. I might be the first player to get two rings in one year.”
As we assume that Ochocinco was joking about joining the Heat, many are wondering if his claim that the Bengals will win the Super Bowl has any merit.
Last season, the Bengals started off with some impressive and dramatic victories, beating the defending champions the Pittsburgh Steelers with a last-minute touchdown. They also ended up getting a perfect 6-0 against their division, which saw them crowned as the champs of the North.
By the same token, the Bengals did have a relatively easy schedule. After starting off 7-2, the Bengals slumped towards the end of the season with heavy hearts as receiver Chris Henry died following a domestic dispute. The Bengals risked blowing a huge lead in the division but held on for a 10-6 finish.
The last game of the regular season was an embarrassing showing and a sign of things to come. The Bengals rested many starters in the season final against the New York Jets and they were crushed 37-0. The Bengals met the Jets in a rematch the following week in the Wild Card Round where the Jets defeated them again by a closer margin of 24-14.
The key for the offence last season was the breakout season of running back Cedric Benson. The running game was a staple to their scoring and Carson Palmer had a pretty good season as well at quarterback. Ochocino’s production increased from 2008 as he caught 72 passes for 1,047 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Now this season, the Bengals will face a tougher schedule as they will meet the strong AFC East division, as well as the NFC South, which may prove to be very difficult.
At least Chad Ochocinco is optimistic about this season and his swagger will have to help the Bengals build on what they accomplished last season.
