Chad Pennington to get the start for the Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington, the two-time NFL comeback player of the year, will get a chance to do it all again after getting the start when the Miami Dolphins host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, 14 November.
Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano confirmed. "After making long evaluations on all details involved, what I have decided to do here as we move forward is that, this week Chad Pennington is going to be the starting quarterback," Sparano told reporters on Wednesday.
"I took a lot of things into consideration and weighed a lot of options."
The Dolphins are currently 4-4 on the season and in third place in the AFC East behind the New York Jets and New England Patriots. Sparano made sure to point out that the decision to relieve Chad Henne of his duties as starting quarterback has nothing to
do with how he's handled the team up to this point.
"This is not an indictment of Chad Henne at all," Sparano added. "It is not an indictment of his future. I do believe this player has gotten an awful lot better, certainly come two-fold from where he was to where he is right now. At this particular time,
it's something I feel this is something I need to do for our football team."
Chad Pennington twice won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award, in 2006 while playing with the New York Jets and in 2008 after moving to Miami. He currently holds the record for the best career completion percentage in the NFL. Pennington played in
only three games last season, and will be seeing his first action this year in relief of Henne.
Henne, in only his third season in the NFL, had completed over 60-percent of his passes for 1900 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
