Chad Tracy endures a torn muscle and is out for six to eight weeks - MLB Update
Pinch-hitter Chad Tracy becomes another player in the list of injuries for the Washington Nationals. With an offence, which is short of runs and is being volatile; losing a hitter who can hammer a galaxy of homers in one game is a massive blow.
After a MRI report, it turned out that he will be going through surgery. Broken muscle in the groin is the reason why it was considered an only option. Irrespective of what becomes of his fitness following surgery, he will be absent for at-least six to eight
weeks. This calls for immediate replacements for the Nationals.
The fact that the bulk of the back-up has already been employed, finding a reliable option is not going to be easy. An ideal scenario will be the return of Mark DeRosa to fill the spot.
As this is unlikely, the Nationals' manager Davey Johnson will be ransacking Minor-League prospects, just as he did in the case of calling Bryce Harper to the season.
Dealing with so many injuries at one time is among the toughest of the tasks. The Nationals’ manager is proud of having dealt with a reasonable amount of success.
Leading the National League East Division table for greater part of the season, with injuries to the likes of Michael Morse and Jayson Werth is a monumental achievement.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Johnson said. “I’m kind of a dinosaur. … It’s kind of weird. But that’s a tribute to the makeup of this ball club and this organization. There’s a lot of capable guys that we’re going give an opportunity, and they’re going
to run with it.”
While one can understand, chunk of the contribution of their pitchers, that can no way rob some of the hitters of their due. Ian Desmond, despite not having best of the talent for hitting homers has done great job for the Nationals. Similarly, Adam LaRoche
became a timely saviour for the club.
Of all the replacements the Nationals have called up so far, most of them have proven equally reliable. What is going to happen this time is not yet known. The manager will look forward to better results and continuation of their dominance in National League.
