Chad from Ochocinco to Johnson: Miami Dolphins WR not sees impact of name change – NFL News
Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver Chad Ochocinco – a man who is not short of surprises – has become Chad Johnson but insisted the change of his name is for the sake of his marriage only and inside he is still Ochocinco.
Chad signed a year deal with the Miami Dolphins in June this year, just four days after his release by the New England Patriots. He is heading for training camp later this week but a couple of days ago surprised everyone to inform on Twitter that he has
changed his name back to Johnson.
Now he has informed about the decision officially and told a local media outlet that it was done on demand of his new wife, who insisted to have a real name as her surname rather than the fun-focused Ochocinco.
This is second time that the WR has changed his name. He changed the surname from Johnson to Ochocinco in 2008 and has been wearing football jersey with the same name inscribed on it.
He has clarified the latest shift coming as a result of his wife's request, which he did not want to turn down.
Chad said:
"I'm refocused and locked in. Time to get back to the old me. I'm just doing it for the marriage. It has nothing to do with football. Ochocinco is still in me. It's just my middle name."
Johnson is former Cincinnati Bengals’ star receiver. He was selected for Pro Bowl six times and averaged 80 receptions for consecutive seven seasons – a feat that Chad has never come closer to of late. Still, he has adopted the name once again after a gap
of about four years.
The player is also known for his outbursts against National Football League (NFL) commissioner, Roger Goodell. He earlier this year tweeted to refer the NFL chief as dad, saying the commissioner should be wary of the fact that he will be a great trouble
for him this season.
Dolphins hope Chad’s addition on the offensive line will complement the efforts of their offence leader, who is yet to be decided.
