Chad le Clos clinches Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day one: 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Chad Guy Bertrand le Clos of South Africa clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Thursday, June 14.
The 20-year-old le Clos stifled hopes of his challengers in the double lap butterfly event and proved his dominance for the title of the event.
With his immaculate efforts, he remained slightly ahead of his strongest challenger, Jason Dunford of Kenya as he tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 52.51 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.14 seconds faster from his competitor, Dunford, who hit the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 52.65 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Konrad Czerniak of Poland, who stayed 0.07 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing end by submitting a time of 52.72 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Matteo Rivolta of Italy, who was only 0.12 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and settled on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 52.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Rivolta remained in a lead of 0.08 seconds over his following swimmer, Steffen Deibler of Germany, who completed his swim in fifth best place by clocking an effort of 52.92 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Piero Codia of Italy, who remained just an inch slower from overwhelming his foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 52.94 seconds.
Codia enjoyed an advantage of just 0.06 seconds over Oskar Krupecki of Poland, who sprinted his way towards the finishing end as seventh position holder by reporting an effort of 53.00 seconds.
The Polish swimmer was followed by Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, who remained 0.13 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and ended eighth in the event by submitting a time of 53.13 seconds.
The session came to an end after the phenomenal sprints of all participants in their respective events while the position holders received a huge round of applause from the crowd at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
