Chad le Clos clinches Men’s 200m butterfly gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Chad le Clos of South Africa clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, October 2.
The South African swimmer served notice of his talent in the distant butterfly discipline and managed to outsmart his strongest competitor over the wall for gold medal.
He faced strong contest from Daiya Seto of Japan but with his alluring efforts, he managed to outperform him for the title by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 51.61 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Seto, who stayed only 0.10 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.71 seconds.
The Japanese star was trailed by Velimir Stjepanovic, who stayed considerably slower but reached the podium for bronze medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 56.18 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Simon Olov Sjoedin of Sweden, who stayed almost full body length behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.13 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who stayed just 0.08 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 57.21 seconds.
Cseh was traced by Maxime Rooney of USA, who remained nearly nine seconds apart and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.46 seconds for sixth position.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Ivan Ricobelli of Argentina, who stayed 1.20 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as seventh best finisher by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 07.66 seconds.
Alastair Miley, who qualified as eighth fastest swimmer into the playoff, did not swim in the playoff and failed to grab any position.
In addition, le Clos received massive appreciation from the crowd for his undisputed efforts and articulated that he would continue his hard work in order to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming events.
