Chad le Clos earns Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day two - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Chad le Clos of South Africa earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on second day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Friday, June 15.
The 20-year-old le Clos showed no mercy to his opponents and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal. With his wonderful start and epic pace, he faced no difficulty in overpowering his competitors and reached the finishing wall for first position.
His stupendous efforts remained almost two body lengths ahead of his strongest challenger and he tapped the wall with a nice timing of 1 minute and 55.87 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kazuya Kaneda of Japan, who remained 1.80 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 57.67 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the 200m event was secured by Francesco Pavone of Italy, who was just 0.04 seconds slower from upsetting his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 57.71 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, who was 0.37 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 58.08 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Niccolo Beni of Italy, who remained 0.68 second apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 58.76 seconds.
Beni was trailed by his teammate, Michele Cosentino, who remained 1.17 seconds away from his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.93 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Gabriele Landini of Italy, who remained 0.21 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.14 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Leonardo De Deus of Brazil, who was just an inch apart and touched the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.21 seconds.
In addition, le Clos was contented with his tremendous effort in the distant butterfly discipline and articulated that he will try to make his country proud at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
