Chad le Clos pockets Men’s 100m butterfly gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Chad le Clos of South Africa pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
Le Clos, who qualified into the final round as third fastest swimmer, met expectations of his fans by proving his mettle for the crown of the event.
The South African swimmer followed the lead of Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin in the preliminary round, but served notice of his talent in the playoff and occupied gold medal.
He remained half body length ahead of his following swimmer and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a nice time of 49.60 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia, who stayed 0.62 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 50.22 seconds.
Korotyshkin was chased by Thomas Shields of USA, who was just an inch behind and completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the race by submitting a time of 50.42 seconds.
Shields was traced by Kenneth To of Australia, who stayed 0.58 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and appeared on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking a time of 51.00 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was followed by Jason Edward Dunford of Kenya, who was 0.28 seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall with an effort 51.28 seconds.
Dunford was followed by Chun Nam Derick Ng of Hong Kong, who remained considerably slower from his former finisher and transpired on the finishing end by clocking an effort of 54.11 seconds.
Subsequently, Ng remained 2.35 seconds away from his foregoing finisher, Joao Matias, who clocked a time of 56.46 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth spot of the event was obtained by Obaid Al Jasmi of UAE, who stayed 1.09 seconds behind and completed his swim in a time of 57.55 seconds.
In addition, le Clos expressed happiness over his victory in the butterfly discipline and stressed that he would work hard and try to achieve the same in future events.
