Chadwick boys volleyball team defeats Vistamar by 3-2 in the CIF Southern Section Division V final
Chadwick boys volleyball team had all the right reasons to celebrate on Saturday night as they were able to defeat Vistamar in five long and exciting sets.
Not only did Chadwick achieve a win, they also earned themselves the champion’s title of the CIF Southern Section Division V tournament that was held at Cypress College.
By the time that Chadwick had started celebrating their accomplishment with hoots of joy while Vistamar headed out of the court dejectedly; the score board displayed the following final set scores: 25-18, 17-25, 25-16, 18-25 and 15-10.
The celebrations went long and loud as the Chadwick boys had secured themselves the first ever CIF volleyball title win after a commendable display of volleyball skill.
With their recent win, the Dolphins have been able to improve their overall number of season wins to a figure of 23. These victories have been bagged at an impressively low cost of suffering losses that equal to be five. As opposed to the performance statistics
of the Dolphins, the overall season record of Vistamar falls slightly short. The number of times that Vistamar has registered a win tallies at 20. The4se victories have been experienced at the cost of undergoing losses that total to be three in all.
The start of the first set of the match saw Chadwick take dominance early on by securing themselves a lead. The Dolphins were able to keep the pressure on Vistamar from the beginning in this way. Vistamar could not appropriately negate the pressure that
Chadwick had built and let them put on a 18-6 run that was integral in the 25-18 win that the Dolphins were able to achieve.
The second set of the match started off with both the teams going in for the kill. After losing the first set of the match, Vistamar was in no mood to let the second one go to. They were able to take the lead for themselves at 12-7. However, the Dolphins
did not let the lead stay with their rivals for long and were able to tie the score at 17-17. Vistamar did not let the Dolphins move any further and bagged the second set of the game at 25-17.
The third set was easily taken by Chadwick at 25-16 whereas the fourth one became intense and ended on the terms of the Vikings at 25-18. However, the fifth and final set of the game was sealed by the Dolphins at 15-10.
After the match had reached its close, Hank Trumbull, who is the junior outside hitter for Chadwick, expressed his feelings in the following words, “We've been waiting to win this since day one and we wouldn't settle for anything less. We started the season
off with two losses and we didn't know what was going on then. But we meshed together as a team and started playing our best volleyball. Now we've got the title and it feels awesome.”
