Chael Sonnen: I tried finding a good shot but was unable to do so – UFC News
Chael Sonnen, the former UFC middleweight champion, in a post-bout media interaction commented that he tried his level best to find a good shot so as to capitalise it and wear down Anderson Silva but the Brazilian did not allow him to do so.
Sonnen and Anderson entered the octagon on July 7, 2012 in most probably the extremely hyped and personal bout in UFC history. The duo, which was colliding for the second time, is not only considered as the best in the division but also the meanest in what
they do.
Unfortunately, just like their first clash, Anderson was able to find a way to defend his title against the trash-talker Sonnen. The bout was unanimously dominated by Chael but it was this one little mistake that cost Sonnen the bout and allowed Silva to
place a raw-powered knee to the American’s chest.
After that knee, Chael, who was all meshed up on the mat just received a powerful wave of iron-fists that eventually provoked the bout-referee to intervene and halt the bout. Anderson defended his title, grabbed a TKO win and silenced Chael once and for
all.
After the pay-per-view, during the media interaction, Chael seemed to be a bit humble rather praised Silva for his talent and commented that Anderson is just another regular guy who do’s what other people do, adding that he again got a way to grab a win
which leaves him with no choice but to admire the Brazilian’s peculiar talent.
When asked how he feels about the dismal loss, Sonnen stated, “You’re always trying to work on your skills. But we’re in the middle of the battle. There’s some parts that felt really good, and some parts that really hurt – including the end. I’m always trying
to find that good shot that can change the fight and start to wear a guy down and think twice, and I wasn't able to find it.”
Sonnen admitted Silva’s supremacy in the sport and commented, “The better guy wins every time. The better guy won tonight.” Though Sonnen has lost the bout yet he still is the only one man in the whole UFC middleweight division who has given a hard time
to Anderson Silva.
Silva, also known as ‘Spider’, was considered invincible before his first collision with Sonnen. It was Chael, who became the first brawler to ever connect a punch to Silva’s face.
A glance at the Saturday night showdown also shows that it was Sonnen who dominated the bout and even the octagon. Sonnen now has 12 losses in his illustrious mixed martial art career out of a total 40 bouts.
