Chael Sonnen assures he will not challenge the decision – UFC News
Rumours were suggesting Chael Sonnen will challenge his TKO decision to Anderson Silva but the American Gangster has shrugged them off. Yesterday, Sonnen revealed that instead of challenging the decision he would accept it as a man.
Sonnen lost to Anderson Silva in the second round of their UFC 148 bout via TKO. The highly anticipated fight ended in minutes, contrary to what fans and analysts were believing.
After the show, there were rumours of Sonnen challenging the decision. However, the American mixed martial artist iterated, “I don’t think any athlete should even begin to talk [about retirement] or even think like that until you let 30 days go by. In anything
in life, you don’t want to make decision based on emotion. You have very big highs and very big lows in this sport.”
He added, “You don’t want to make any drastic decisions,” said the Team Quest fighter. “I think it’s an insult to the fans when guys just say ‘I retired,’ when they really mean, ‘I will see everybody in 18 months, because I am coming back.’ When I get to
that point in my career, I will make the statement and I’ll never look back.”
Sonnen had promised his fans and his father, on his death bed, that he would win the UFC middleweight title from Anderson Silva. However, once he went in the ring, he did not seemed as prepared as everyone was expecting him to be.
On the other hand, Anderson Silva stood by his words. He promised he would change the sport by brutally beating Chael, and he did so. The defeat was embarrassing for Sonnen, as he had said enough against Silva before the bout.
According to his manager, Sonnen either will retire from the sport or will consider moving up in weight, since he does not have anything left to fight for in the division. Sonnen has locked horns twice with Anderson Silva and has failed both the times.
For now, Sonnen wants to take a break from fighting and consider his options. The American Gangster might retire or move up in weight to face the champion at 215 lbs.
