Chael Sonnen feels Jon Jones acted selfish – UFC News
Former middleweight contender and now light heavyweight contender Chael Sonnen believes light heavyweight champion Jon Jones played selfish, which caused the cancellation of UFC 151.
In an interview to FUEL TV, the American Gangster admitted that the cancellation of UFC 151 was bigger than him. However, he did acknowledge the fact that Jones’ decision of turning down a fight against him to save the day caused more than expected loss.
“I have friends on the card. I have fighters who are scratching and clawing their way through the undercards and the prelims, even the main card guys. Their whole future depends on the check they were going to earn for doing their job next week. That's all
been taken away from them because one selfish brat didn't want to go in there and fight. I just don't understand it,” said Sonnen, who recently lost his second title shot at Middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Whether he is good enough or not, Sonnen is known for being courageous. He is ever ready to fight for the title, no matter if he has time to prepare or not. However, the same cannot be expected from Jon Jones, who declined the offer to fight Sonnen after
his scheduled opponent Dan Henderson suffered a leg injury which prevented him from participating in the event.
Henderson’s injury forced president Dana White to persuade Jones to fight Sonnen, but the latter refused. According to Jones, he does not want to fight Sonnen on an eight days notice.
More than Sonnen, it was Dana White who felt humiliated and disgusted, as it was the first time in his career that he had to cancel show card.
“He's with Nike. Nike should change their motto with Jones Jones to just do nothing,” said Sonnen in a funny tone, trying to mock Jones.
For now, fans of the UFC are disappointed to know that UFC 151 will never happen. We will directly jump to UFC 152, which takes place on September 22. Had Jones accepted White’s offer, the card would have been live on September 8. We could have seen Sonnen’s
comeback light heavyweight fight against Jones, which surely would have been a delight.
