Chael Sonnen says bouts with Anderson Silva over, looks at aiming other UFC champions – UFC News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a place where fighters create animosity which goes on for years.
They fight in brutal matches and then seek rematches to further quench their thirst for revenge. The same case is with American mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Chael Sonnen a Brazilian MMA fighter Anderson Silva. Recently, Sonnen has expressed his views
for not fighting against Silva again.
According to reports, Sonnen is not willing to fight Silva in the future but he has other plans. It was revealed that Sonnen is now looking at heavyweight, light heavyweight and welterweight champions. Sonnen had his first fight against Silva at UFC 117
in August 2010 but lost the bout after Sonnen locked him in his triangle armbar submission move.
While talking to ESPN, Sonnen revealed his future plans. He views himself as the best in the middleweight category but will not fight against Silva because he wishes to make his mark in other weight divisions. While talking about his fight at UFC on Fox
2 against compatriot MMA fighter Mark Munoz, Sonnen thinks he will beat him and become the number one contender for the middleweight title because that will be on the line.
He said, “I'm going to become the number 1 contender on January 28, but despite what you might think, I'm not going to use that voucher to fight Anderson Silva.”
Stating his future strategy in the UFC, Sonnen said that he would challenge Junior dos Santos, Georges St. Pierre or Jon Jones. All three of these fighters are current champions in each weight class. Dos Santos is the heavyweight champion, St. Pierre is
the welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre instead.
During the interview, Sonnen said, “I'll be looking at dos Santos, Jones and possible St. Pierre. I will take that voucher to Dana White and I will pick one of those three guys.”
Sonnen can have the chance to enter into other weight classes in the UFC for he has shown his worth being a middleweight fighter. He has fought nine fights in UFC where he has won 5 fights and lost 4.
