Chael Sonnen to take on arch rival Anderson Silva in a title bout at UFC 148 – UFC News
Chael Sonnen, the former UFC middleweight champion, will enter the octagon to take on arch rival Anderson Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion, in a five-round bout which will be held on July 7, 2012.
Sonnen is seriously looking forward at avenging his former loss to Anderson. The Saturday night clash will be the sequel of the August 7, 2010 bout which was unfortunately lost by Chael.
During the whole bout, it was Sonnen who held the upper hand but just few seconds before the end of the last round, Chael committed a huge mistake that eventually cost him the whole bout and the title as well.
This time Chael thinks that the matter is personal and he wants to straighten the record by nailing the ‘Spider’. The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and Sonnen literally did bash Silva by his trash talk.
The American proud is infamous for being a jabberer, a belligerent who does not respect his opponents (at least he does not give even a bit respect to Anderson). From the day when Sonnen lost his bout to Silva, the 35-year-old has been eagerly waiting in
fact rigorously following Silva.
Sonnen has fought just two men after his loss to Silva and has successfully nailed both of them. During the media interaction, Sonnen did not beat around the bush and straight forward in an aggressive manner stated, “People say this shouldn’t be personal,
but it is personal. I don’t give a d**n if it hurt his feelings.”
Chael while informing the media personnel stated, “All I can tell you is this is gonna be a hard fight. I’m gonna wait for him to throw a kick, put my forehead into his chest and run my first into his head for 25 minutes until he gives up. I’m bigger, faster
and stronger. All I can tell you that the Chael of today could beat up the Chael of two years ago. I will not back down from anyone ever.
When asked as to what are his plans about retiring from the sport, the former champion with a plain face commented, “When the day comes that I won’t fight a man, I’ll quit.”
At the moment, Chael has a bit experience and confidence advantage as well over Anderson as it was the former who gave a brutal beating to the latter. The duo will meet at the octagon set up at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
