Chael Sonnen wants to be humble for The Ultimate Fighter – UFC News
Rarely there are times when we get to hear ‘good things’ from fighters who are known for being mean. Chael Sonnen, nicknamed The American Gangster, is among fighters who knows how to rip off his opponents verbally to grab their and fans’ attention. For some
reason, this time Sonnen has reached nirvana and he wants to be humble and peaceful in order to coach The Ultimate Fighter season 17.
“As a coach, the first thing you've got to do is be very humble because I'm not going to be able to do very much,” he said to MMAJunkie.com. “What I can do is I can create an environment. I can create a positive environment that they look forward to going
to. I can encourage, I can motivate, and I can inspire. And there's nothing that a coach can do that's more important than motivating – far in front of technique or knowledge is motivation, and that's what we're going to do.”
Sonnen, who currently stands with 27 wins, 12 losses and 1 tie in MMA, and 6 wins and 4 losses in UFC, will face light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at the TUF 17 for the title. The American Gangster believes it will be his courage, humility and his passion
for the sport that would him forward.
“We're going to create a positive environment where when they get out of bed in the morning, they look forward to coming to the gym, which is very rare.”
It should be noted here that this is probably Sonnen’s last opportunity to make it big in the industry. He has faced middleweight champion Anderson Silva twice but he could never defeat the Brazilian fighter. Now, Sonnen is up against Jones, who , like Silva,
is yet another elite and dangerous fighter.
Since Sonnen has called out Jones, he needs to prove himself against the American in order to make sure his UFC career remains. If he loses again, chances are that the American Gangster will have to move backwards and play with inferior opponents to make
his way up, which definitely is not something meant for Sonnen.
