Chael Sonnen will face Anderson Silva in Rio de Janeiro – UFC News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship, UFC, announced Chael Sonnen’s rematch with Anderson Silva for June 23 at the Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The announcement was made on Monday.
Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva went head to head for the first time in August 2010. During the bout, Sonnen dominated Silva for most of the rounds but he submitted to Silva’s last minute submission and lost the match. This will be Sonnen’s second chance
to grab the title from Silva if he is able to win.
Since their first match, Sonnen has been pressurising the management for a rematch but nothing could come to a conclusion until now. Right after his first match with Silva, Sonnen found himself amidst a couple of legal issues that kept him away from the
ring for at least a year which made it impossible for UFC to schedule his rematch with Silva.
As of now, the number one contender Sonnen is eager to face Silva once again. He is trying to start a war of words with the champion but Silva is playing quiet. In his recent interview, Sonnen came up saying, “You don't matter Anderson. Don't talk down to
me; don't talk to me like you're my equal because you're not. I stomped you before, and I will stomp you again. You are a nuisance to me and to everybody else. You ducked me for six years. You ducked me for two years after that, there's nothing I can do more
than pick a fight. You put every stipulation on his thing that you could think of and I answered them all, including coming to Brazil, like it's some kind of big deal. … I'm gonna stomp you this time, the same like I did last time.”
If Sonnen is able to beat Silva then he is the new champion. However, if he fails to do once again, probably he will not get another chance to prove his mettle since there are others in the line as well such as Rashad Evans and Michael Bisping. Even though
Bisping is nowhere close to Sonnen, he still is a good fighter who can groom to become the best one around.
