Chafing/running?

i think i might have chafing from running:

- it's near my armpit and looks like stretch marks BUT IT'S NOT

- pretty sure it's from running

- is this chafing?

- what a good way to prevent it?

- why does it happen?

- and is it really a sign that i need to lose weight? i'm a runner, pretty skinny (like 120, size3-5)

thanks

  1. Yes its chafing, and god no...it does not mean you have to lose weight.

There is a product called Body Glide, looks like a mini deodorant stick (you can purchase this at any running store or good quality sports store)

Rub onto troubled area before you run, if you sweat a lot, carry it with you in your fuel/water belt to reapply.

In an emergency you can use vaseline (but makes a bit of a mess, it would work though)

edit:  exactly the same info above....

Good luck and happy running! :)

  2. Try deoderant (not that you don't wear any..not trying to be rude either) This does sound like chaffing, but if you use extra deodorant this could help absorb the sweat. The sweat is what causes chaffing. Do you wear a tank when you go running? Sometimes wearing clothing that covers the armpit (like a t-shirt) helps to avoid the skin touching, so it doesn't rub and cause chaffing. Hope this helps.

P.S. don't think you need to worry about losing weight...good luck running

  3. It sounds like chafing.  Chafing happens when skin rubs against loose fabric or other skin.  Moisture (rain, sweat) makes it worse.

Chafing can occur even if you're in shape and thin.  So don't worry about that.  It's a common complaint.  Guys can even get chafing on the nipples of their chest.  That's why you'll sometimes see guy runners putting band aids on their nipples! (Seriously!)

Running stores sell a product called "Body Glide" because chafing is so common.  You can also use Vaseline or anything similar that reduces the friction between your skin and the clothing.
