Chai Biao, Guo Zhendong power their way to quarter-finals of Indonesia Open 2012
Men’s Doubles experts Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong of China overwhelmed Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata and surged into quarter-finals of Djarum Indonesia Open on June 14, 2012.
World Number five duo had to wait for one hour and six minutes to read the favourable margin of 21-12, 22-24 and 21-14.
Now the victorious pair will test their skills against Danish campaigners Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen to reserve their spot in semi-finals.
Earlier in pre quarter-final match, the Chinese couple dominated in opening and closing part of the game while the opposing team could perform well only in middle of the contest.
The opening game got started with Japanese shuttlers making swift progress to a decent total of six but their dominance was short lived as Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong counterbalanced the situation.
They prevailed in next rallies and managed to end first half of the set with a slight 11-9 edge.
After the interval, they turned this initial lead into a decisive advantage by grabbing seven consecutive points.
They reached at 18-10 and this deficit broke the backbone of their rivals who knelt down after reading 12-21 score on the board.
However, this first set loss did not harm Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata much as they stood tall in very next segment of the show.
This time they did not repeat previous mistakes and established an upper hand straight in the beginning. They pushed their competitors on the back-foot by snatching first four points in a row.
They were standing at 11-6 when mid-game break was announced but this interval broke their rhythm and they lost their grip.
The Chinese players injected some thrill in contest by ruling next nine rallies. They placed indomitable total of 15 in third quarter of the set.
Though, Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata remained at lower end until game point situation but they bounced back and saved the honour with decisive figure of 24-22.
Last part of the battle completely belonged to Chai Biao and Guo Zhendong who did not give their opponents any counterattack opportunity and sealed victory with a significant margin of 21-14.
