  1. depends on how being handled

  2. A chain is more severe than a rope.  What effect are you looking for?  What are you wanting to get out of your horse with this kind of hackamore?

  3. There are going to be different hackamores for different jobs. The chain hackamore is really good at getting a better rate and flex from a horse. The tape is to help the chain not be so severe.

The rope hackamores and leather hackamores are mostly used for getting a better head and more control on a green horse or a hard faced horse.

Keep in mind, whether it be a chain or rope noseband you also need to consider the length of the shank as this will make a considerable difference on the feel.

  4. It is definitely more cruel.  How horrible that you would even consider such a thing.   Obviously, you do not understand the reasoning for using a hackamore.   Think about it.  How would a rope VS a metal chain across your nose feel??????

  5. You are looking at mechanical hackamores. I have two mechanical hackamores. I do not like them, I like bosals, that's what I use primarily. Yes the bike chain is stronger, but it is much more harsh. YES HARSH. Hackamores can be just as harsh as a bit if not used right. I would stay with the rope or rawhide nose band rather than the chain. It's simple if you think about it, which would you rather someone run across your nose, a rope or a bike chain(rubber coated or not). Plus the rubber coating on the bike chain only last about 4 years before rotting, where as a bosal or rope will last much longer.

  6. chain is really really cruel. most are chain covered in rubber, but if the rubber breaks you can put sheepskin on it.
