I am borrowing a gas chainsaw from a neighbor - but he is not at home today to answer my question. I have searched high and low for owners manuals - but nothing. I know I need to mix the 2-cycle motor oil with gas (duh). But I noticed a second oil reseveroir that is bone dry - - is this the chain oil? If so, can I use the 2-cycle oil for both the chain oil and gas misture?

  1. NO! It's a special lubricant for the chain;-{ usually red.

Perhaps he doesn't realise he needs it;-{ buy him some.

  2. NO! NO! NO!......You have to use bar and chain oil in the second reservoir. Wal-Mart carries cheap stuff or a local farm store will have better quality bar oil. When you buy two-cycle oil, there is a mixing guide on the back. Just be sure you know what mixture the saw requires and follow the label directions to achieve proper mix ration.

  3. Bar and chain oil is what you need from most auto/hardware stores. In a tight I have used regular 30 weight motor oil. just be sure the 2 cycle oil and gas mix are right.

  4. JMW is correct
